Beats Powerbeats Pro Truly Wireless Review

The Beats Powerbeats Pro are excellent truly wireless sports headphones with excellent sound quality. They are adaptable to a wide range of musical styles. The ear-hook design and relatively compact in-ear fit make these headphones very stable and breathable. Unfortunately, they do not create an airtight seal, allowing noise to enter your audio, which is not ideal for commuting. Their case is also quite large, but you should be able to fit it into a gym bag. The Powerbeats Pro, on the other hand, are high-end headphones with one of the best battery lives for a truly wireless design.

Style

The Powerbeats Pro is similar to the Beats Powerbeats3 Wireless and Beats Powerbeats 4, but they are truly wireless and have a slightly more streamlined design. Because of the ear-hooks, they appear to be sports headphones, but they are still quite stylish. They come in a variety of color schemes, but only the all-black version is currently available. The colors navy, moss, and ivory will be available.

Comfort

The Powerbeats Pro are lightweight in-ears that can be worn for long periods of time without becoming fatigued. They’re light, and the ear-hooks are easily malleable, allowing you to find a more secure and comfortable fit. They don’t go as far into the ear canal as other in-ears, and they come in a variety of tip sizes to help you find the right fit. Furthermore, even if they have buttons on the back of the buds, they are very sensitive, so you won’t have to push the headphones even further inside your ears, which can be painful. If you wear glasses with thick arms, however, the ear-hooks may be difficult to fit around your ears. These sports headphones are, on the whole, very comfortable.

Controls

The genuinely wireless Powerbeats Pro has an excellent control scheme. The Beats logo serves as a multi-purpose button with a variety of functions. Music can be played/paused or calls can be managed with a single tap. With double or triple clicks, you can skip tracks or go backwards, respectively. Also included is an easy-to-use volume rocker on the top of the earbuds. A long press of the multipurpose button will also activate your device’s voice assistant. Furthermore, all of the commands can be activated from either earpiece, making them extremely convenient to use. Except for the ‘Hey Siri’ voice command, all controls are available and completely functional on Android devices.

Portability

These headphones are small and compact, but they are a little bulkier than most fully wireless in-ears. They’re easy to transport because they fit comfortably into your pockets or a gym bag. They also have a nice hard case, but it’s very big.

Build Quality

The Powerbeats Pro are well-made true wireless headphones, but they don’t quite equal the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless or the B&O PLAY E8 2.0 in terms of consistency. They’re made of plastic, which is more lightweight for sports. However, when moving them around, the ear-hooks sound flimsy, and they are only rated IPX4, which is disappointing for high-end sports headphones, though we don’t measure this. On the plus side, they are comfortable to wear and seem to be high-end headphones. They’re dense enough to withstand a few drops without being damaged too badly.

Stability

These headphones are extremely robust, making them an excellent choice for most sports. Even with intense head movement, it’s nearly impossible to lose them during a run or workout thanks to the ear-hook design. They also don’t move much within your ears, so you won’t have to reposition them as much during your training. Check out the Bose Sport Earbuds if you want even more stable earbuds for working out.

Noise Cancellation

The Powerbeats Pro has a low noise isolation efficiency. These in-ears are only passively isolated and do not have active noise cancellation. They don’t block any lower-end frequencies, but they won’t be useful in public transportation because they don’t do anything to block the deep rumble of engines. They minimise ambient noise by around 6dB in the mid-range, which is critical for blocking out speech but won’t be noticeable. On the plus side, they do a good job at minimising noises in the treble range, such as sharp S and T sounds, and fan noises, such as an A/C machine, by around 22dB.

Battery

The Powerbeats Pro has excellent battery life. We measured over 11 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, which is significantly longer than any completely wireless headphones we’ve reviewed. It took less than an hour to completely charge these headphones, which is incredible. According to the specs sheet, you can get up to 24 hours of total playtime thanks to their scenario. They even go into standby mode after a period of inactivity, but we weren’t able to reliably calculate the timer’s length. Furthermore, unlike the Apple AirPods 2, there is no master earbud, which means you can charge either the left or right bud and use the other one on its own. Check out the Mpow Flame Pro if you want similar-looking headphones with much longer battery life.

Bluetooth

These Bluetooth-only headphones are compatible with version 5.0 and use the H1 chip on iOS devices. This makes pairing much simpler, and you might even get better results as a result. They can’t be paired with multiple devices at the same time, but even if they don’t support NFC, they have a simple and fast pairing process, even with Android devices. The latency of the Powerbeats Pro is about normal for Bluetooth headphones. They may not be the best choice for viewing video content because of the 183ms delay. However, since our testing rig does not use the H1 chip, your experience might be better on an iOS computer. However, if you’re looking for a pair of truly wireless headphones for sports, the Skullcandy Push Ultra Truly Wireless seems to have even less latency on Android systems.

Verdict

Because of their secure ear-hook nature, the Powerbeats Pro are excellent sports headphones. They also have strong audio reproduction, with a lot of bass and mid-range detail. They’ll be suitable for a wide range of musical styles, and the majority of people should be pleased with the sound quality. They do not, however, produce an airtight seal, resulting in poor isolation results. Since they don’t filter out ambient noise well, they won’t be suitable for driving or at the workplace. Owing to their lag, they won’t be perfect for watching TV or gaming like most Bluetooth headphones.

These headphones are made to be worn when exercising. During vigorous sports, their ear-hook nature is very secure and does not shift around. They’re still very breathable, like most in-ears, so you shouldn’t sweat any more than normal when working out with them on. They have nice physical controls that are simple to operate even when involved. They’re lightweight, but their case is a little bulky; however, this shouldn’t be an issue if you put it in a gym bag.
