Apple releases new versions of its famous items every year, and the AirPods are no exception. There have been several leaks concerning the next-generation AirPods and AirPods Pro, ranging from photos to alleged specifications. However, a new analysis looks even further forward, to the revisions in 2023.
The AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 will be released this year, according to Bloomberg, but they’ll be upgraded again next year, with the Pro model including motion sensors and fitness monitoring features. Apple is also considering removing the stems from the AirPods Pro and will put the design to the test on a new set of Beats-branded wireless earbuds that LeBron James may have been sporting in recent Instagram photos.
The base AirPods’ stems may also be shortened. They also don’t appear to be getting active noise cancellation.
Finally, Apple is looking at additional colours for the AirPods Max over-ear headphones it debuted in December, and it’s working on additional HomePod products like an Apple TV box with a speaker and camera, as well as an Amazon Echo Show-style high-end speaker with an iPad as a display.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has a strong track record when it comes to leaking data on Apple’s next products, so much of what he alleges here might be true. Given Apple’s focus on health, we believe the fitness-tracking AirPods Pro make the most sense.
